The vote was unanimous!

Our proposed amendment to the Future
Land Use Map was presented to the Planning Board Wednesday afternoon at
2:00. I want to first and foremost, thank the volunteers who collected
signatures on the petition...and especially the neighbors that came today to
show their support.
I would like to report that the vote was unanimous! The Planning Board has
given their support to our
proposal.
Step one done....on to step two. Next, we will be heard before City Council
on July 15 (we'll let you know of the actual time later). At that time we
will present our petition and we want to gather many more signatures. Right
now, we only have about 20% of the homes in Guilford Hills on the petition.
We need more!! We've won the first battle, but not the war. We need the
support of ALL the homes in Guilford Hills. Mark your calendars, please plan
to attend and show City Council that we love Guilford Hills and don't want
any additional commercial development to ruin "our oasis on the edge of
chaos." Please contact me, Michelle Marine (President of GHUC), to add your
name to the list or call 202-8653.
Our next neighborhood meeting is Thursday, July 17, at 7:30 (the third
Thursday of July). We will meet at Parkway Baptist Church in the Conference
Room. Meeting later will give you enough time to enjoy the cool summer
evening before you join us!
Hope to see you there!
Michelle Marine,
President
Guilford Hills Unification Committee

Guilford Hills Accepted into the
Greensboro Neighborhood Congress
Guilford Hills has proudly taken another giant step forward to making and
keeping this "the best neighborhood in the world." On Saturday, May 10,
Guilford Hills was unanimously voted in as a new member of the Greensboro
Neighborhood Congress (GNC). The Congress is a nonprofit organization of
more than 40 neighborhoods, representing more than 16,000 of Greensboro's
residents. It's mission statement is as follows:
The Greensboro Neighborhood Congress, a city-wide alliance of neighborhoods,
seeks to improve the quality of life within the City of Greensboro by
addressing issues of city-wide importance and by empowering neighborhoods to
resolve neighborhood-specific concerns.
The Congress is a wonderful resource for both information and
representation. They tackle the concerns of it's members (the residents and
neighborhoods of Greensboro) with such topics from fair housing,
environmental concerns & local ordinance enforcement all the way to just
general information about the City of Greensboro.
Over the years, our founder JoAnn Peck has pushed for the GHUC to join the
GNC. Many requests have been made for a few residents to accept the role as
Guilford Hills' representatives within the Congress. With membership, we are
given the opportunity to vote, on behalf of our residents, on very important
issues and decisions that can affect our neighborhood and city as a whole.
We would like to thank Kim Fuquay and Jim Rhoades for being the 2 people to
step up and take on the responsibility of that leadership role. We know
they'll do a great job and we appreciate their dedication to Guilford Hills.
Please continue to watch for updated information about the Greensboro
Neighborhood Congress on both this web site and in our newsletter, the
Guilford Hills Connection.

The By-Laws... Make it yours.
The current By-Laws for Guilford Hills
were adapted from the by-laws of another neighborhood. This worked fine in
the beginning, but now we need our by-laws updated for our specific needs,
and our goals for the future. Your Board members are currently working
on updating these by-laws. Please take a moment to look at the
current by-laws,
and the revised by-laws
that, with your approval, could become our updated by-laws. To assist your
Board members, and your neighbors, help us revise these by-laws to meet our
specific needs, please attend the next GHUC neighborhood meeting. You may
email your comments or suggestions to us at
guilfordhills@bellsouth.net .
