Our next neighborhood meeting will
be on Thursday, November 20.
We will meet at Parkway Baptist Church on Benjamin Pkwy at 7pm.
Please plan to attend!!
Our speaker will be Chris Spencer, from the City of Greensboro Department of
Transportation. He will be speaking about the plan to change the traffic
patterns on Markland Drive. After the addition of a concrete island, traffic
will only be able to leave Markland Drive, but no traffic will be allowed to
enter Markland Dr from Battleground or the shopping center. He will be
bringing a detailed presentation and explanation of the plan, as well as be
available to answer any questions that you might have.
We will also talk about our "Winter Fling" that we are planning for
Saturday, December 6th from 3-7 pm at our park on Pembroke. This will be in
conjunction with the pick-up of pre-ordered Luminaries & Wreaths. Since we
missed our "Fall Fling" due to weather ,we will be adding additional
activities to our pick-up process.
We will have a Jump 'n Fun, a bonfire, marshmallows to roast, hot chocolate,
cookies and our great Silent Auction (of donated items) to benefit Murphy's
Kids...including a framed print from William Mangum!
Please add our meeting on Thursday as well as our "Winter Fling" event to
your calendar, hope to see you there!

2008 John J. Dortch Memorial Series
Greensboro’s History Detective: Jim Schlosser & His Sources
Thursday, November
20, 2008 at the Greensboro Historical Museum:
Talk and swap stories with popular newspaper reporter Jim Schlosser and a
panel including his sources Willie Breeze, Jr., Brenda Florence, Liljana
Kajana, and Mose Kiser, Jr., on Thursday, November 20 at the Greensboro
Historical Museum . The event begins with a book signing from 5:30-7:00PM,
turns to the program at 7:00PM, and afterwards continues with coffee and
conversation.
If there’s a hint of a story, a detail to be discovered, a personality to be
portrayed, or a neighborhood to be documented, Schlosser has been on the
case since 1967, rightfully earning a nickname as Greensboro ’s History
Detective. He’s written about more people, places and events than any of his
peers. There’s just no doubt about the fact that his columns, animated by
his never-ending curiosity, have enthralled generations of News & Record
readers. And that’s the reason Schlosser and His Sources will be the focus
for the Dortch Memorial Program at the Greensboro Historical Museum during
the city’s bicentennial.
Did you know Jim Schlosser lived in
Guilford Hills, on Overbrook Drive?
