From Our President

What is Guilford Hills to me?

It's an "oasis on the edge of chaos." I think we are really lucky to be so close to the conveniences of Greensboro, but even luckier to be removed from the craziness of the busy thoroughfares. How many places in Greensboro can you be so close, but yet still so far away? I really don't know, I'm sure fewer and fewer as the years go by. I just know I love this place and I wouldn't trade my spot for any other.

Since taking over the position of GHUC President in April, I have come to appreciate Guilford Hills and it's residents even more. We all come from such diverse backgrounds, but I'd like to think we have a common goal...to have a safe and peaceful life in homes we love, surrounded by a neighborhood we appreciate. We all have a part to play in achieving that goal.
When was the last time you really had a conversation with your neighbor? When was the last time you waved to a stranger? What about offering to do something for someone, without expecting ANYTHING in return....just to be neighborly?
We are all so busy in our daily lives, we forget to slow down and enjoy our surroundings. Strike up a conversation with a neighbor for no other reason than to just be friendly. Wave to a stranger and enjoy the smile on their face. Commit random acts of kindness and watch it come back to you.

Those small gestures can make a huge difference. You can find out things about your neighbors that you didn't know. You can make a new friend out of a previous stranger or you can pay forward some kindness that was once bestowed upon you. No matter how you look at it, it's great for Guilford Hills.

As you drive down the streets of Guilford Hills, try to appreciate it for what it really is. We have lots of neighbors who have lived here for many years. Some have grown up here or raised their children and sent them off into the world. Some are newer to the neighborhood, raising young families or beginning their adult lives. Some have larger homes and some have smaller homes. Some have yards that are established and steady while some have landscapes that are in a constant state of transformation.

We should appreciate them all...for what they are and how they can contribute to Guilford Hills.
A sense of steadiness can be comforting, but change can also be very refreshing. I challenge each of you....to appreciate the history of Guilford Hills, but participate in it's future. You can be the one person needed to help keep Guilford Hills our "oasis on the edge of chaos."
